The Manavhela Communal Property Association (CPA)
In 1994, the government passed the Restitution of Land Rights Act to restore property to communities dispossessed after 1913.
Based on the claimant verification list compiled by the Regional Land Claim Commission; it was noted the Manavhela people were mainly scattered all over the Makhado Local Municipality and Vhembe so samples were drawn from where 10 and more beneficiaries of the Manavhela land claim lived.
Originally the Manavhela CPA comprised 519 households with 949 members benefitting from the claim. The member list had later been upgraded and comprised of 700 households – many of whom had passed away.
